Our Story
Thelma Yellin is a national high school for the arts that was established in 1959 and is located in the heart of the Borochov neighborhood in Givatayim. The high school is named after the cellist Thelma Yellin, who was one of the pioneers of musical activity and education in Israel. Throughout its existence, the school has been a magnet for the most outstanding students in the field of the arts from all over Israel. The high school trains students in a wide variety of fields of the arts, and all avenues of cultural activity in Israel have been filled with the school's graduates for years.
Art studies
All art majors have a broad curriculum, including rich workshop and theoretical activities. Alongside extensive and varied activities throughout the year, at the end of the first semester each year the school suspends regular academic studies for three weeks in favor of the annual Arts Festival. During this period, the school puts on a wide variety of theater performances, dance performances, art exhibitions, concerts by the school's symphony orchestra and choir, marathons by dozens of jazz ensembles, and festive screening evenings for the film major, and more.
Unique National High School for the Arts
The school 's students come from all corners of the country: cities, suburbs, development towns, kibbutzim and moshavim. What sets them all apart is the aspiration to become the first and leading school in the country that offers art studies alongside academic and scientific studies at the highest level.
The school operates on a four-year schedule, and students study there from ninth to twelfth grade (you can also join in tenth grade).

"How can I describe the magic of his hand? When he wins, those pieces or obstacles cease to exist."
Thelma Yellin
"Thelma Yellin School, one of the oldest art schools in Israel, has been operating for years as the cutting edge of cultural activity in the country in the field of art education. Our students are blessed with unforgettable learning experiences thanks to an extraordinary tradition of unique educational work led by an excellent teaching team. Recently, the school has been receiving tremendous momentum thanks to the renewal of the curricula in all art majors, and thanks to extraordinary collaborations with cultural bodies, academies, supervisory bodies in the Ministry of Education, and unique community initiatives. We see excellence as a way of life that may be expressed both in deepening the students' path in artistic and theoretical work, and in encouraging their involvement in the life of the community and the state. The school staff strives to develop critical thinking in all fields, and to create a constant connection between art and the humanities. We believe that creativity may constitute an inexhaustible source for expanding the concept of humanity, and an important opening for the expression of each individual's opinion. And one about the state of Israeli society, and the place of youth in local and global social processes. The school staff is happy to welcome students from all over the country, and we call on everyone who sees art as the center of their lives at this time in their lives to join us. With best wishes, Dr. Dan Sagiv
